2011 Super Rugby Trophy

To commemorate the inaugural Super Rugby championship, SANZAR (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby) were after an iconic trophy designed to impress. The entire project consisted of 15 conference tropies and a number of replicas, but the highlight was of course, the single championship trophy coming in at a massive 18kg.

In concept, it needed to be impressive and grand but also a perpetual design. It had to not only symbolise the fanatical emotion of the Super Rugby Union, but also the union of the 3 rugby-loving nations; South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

In practice, it needed to have substantial weight and hold enough Champagne for a proper celebration.
